Connectors as a product require two types of technology: design technology and manufacturing technology. An effective means of mastering connector technology

New energy vehicle connectors, rail transit connectors, aerospace connectors, etc., which we commonly see, are divided from a market perspective. From a technical point of view, connectors should be divided into two broad categories: power connectors that transmit large currents and high voltages, and signal connectors that transmit small currents and low voltages. This is based on the different concerns of the connectors in their design. The design difficulty of the power connector is mainly to solve the heat generation problem, and the main difficulty of the signal connector design is stability and signal integrity (high frequency and high speed).

From the design goal, the connector can be divided into functional design and reliability design. The so-called functional design, if able to pass 100A current, can be distorted by the 40G signal. Reliability design is to ensure how long this feature can last and what its retention rate is. For connectors, reliability design is much more difficult and complicated. In the field of connectors, reliability and quality are different. Reliability is a design metric, and quality is a measure of whether a product's manufacturing level meets design requirements.

2. What is the main reliability problem of the connector?

Connector reliability issues are primarily: reliability design and reliability assessment. Both have great difficulty, the latter being largely the basis of the former.

3. What is the situation of domestic connector reliability research?

At present, domestic reliability research mainly has problems such as simulation experiments and in-depth analysis. And the cost of reliability research is high. It is recommended to focus on the relationship between materials and working conditions and environment, so that the results can be applied to more connector designs to balance the input-output ratio, not specific. A connector is used for system research.

4. How to analyze the fault from the perspective of reliability in view of the recent ablation of brand mobile phones?

The idea of ​​analysis should be to first create a tree diagram of the influencing factors, list the possible factors of all influences, then find out the relationship, arrange them in order of importance, and then find out the mechanism according to the relationship diagram, and finally determine the method of testing and evaluation. The specific analysis is: For the USB ablation phenomenon, the five influencing factors with the highest probability of occurrence among the 16 influencing factors are: temperature, pollution, plugging and wear, high temperature, voltage. Through the laboratory simulation analysis of relevant influencing factors, the order of the factors of USB ablation failure under temperature and humidity is: pollution, voltage, insertion and removal times. This demonstrates the possibility of ablation and the conditions that arise.

It is worth noting that the pollution analysis is based on a corrosion mechanism, but it is not certain that its ablation is the mechanism. It cannot be said that the failure is caused only by this mechanism.

5. How to measure the reliability of the connector Is the design reasonable?

At present, there is a widespread phenomenon in the industry: the indicators exhibited by the connector products are qualified, but the product design is not necessarily up to standard. As we all know, the international general rule is that the reasonable contact pressure drop should be around 10mV, and the maximum should not exceed 20mV. This criterion is essentially to control the temperature rise, and the purpose of controlling the temperature rise is to ensure that the alpha spot does not melt when current flows through the contact, thereby ensuring the working life of the contact.

Previously, I found that the indicators of a connector far exceeded the standard in making product improvements for customers. According to the guidelines, a reasonable temperature is about 53 ° C, and the temperature rise of the contact is 2-3 ° C higher than the conductor temperature. However, the temperature rise of this connector reached 10 ° C, obviously not set according to the specifications. Since the temperature on the contacts is difficult to measure, we use the contact drop to measure the temperature based on the heat of fusion, which is related to the current resistance. This finds an indirect measurement method.

It is believed that quite a few companies do not have the above settings in terms of connector contacts. It is OK to measure the entire temperature. However, it is unclear whether this contact can maintain long-term work. This problem will not be apparent at the time.
